Only Superman will have a job

I’m in the computer “business” since more than 10 years, when my father bought for me my old potato, a Pentiun III. Before, I had an old 80286 without hard disk and with the MS-Dos was running on the RAM memory (in disckettes). But when my fathers bought me my old lovely potato, my live changed a lot.

During the next years, I distributed publicity in my town because I wanted a re-writable cd-rom, or a modem, a new graphics target… And I did all the changes in some cases with an expert help, but in the majority I repaired an maintained my computer.

When I finished my official high school courses, I followed in it for studied an especialist course of Administrator of Computer Systems during the two oficials years. In this time, I repaired, maintained, assembled… a lot of friends, family or small companies computers, and I earned a little fame and a bit money.

My next step was go to the university, and in the three oficials years I finish my thecnical degree. I learn a lot during this time, in the university and out of the university.

Since had a year more of less I’m searching a job of my especiality in the computer world. I like teach/help the people, and I think that a teacher or help-desk will be the best position for me in a company. I’m studying the postgraduate studies to be a teacher, and sending resumes and petitions of job.

But nowadays I have a big big problem, I only have three officials months of experience (the practises of the course of Administrator of Computer System); and the companies supplies demand young people, with studies and with two or three minimum years of experience in companies.

And I think, I’m young, during all of my live I studied (nowadays too), I only worked in summers(in the construction world), in the “publicity world” and for my friends, family and me in the computers world, and the companies want studies + experience. What’s happend? Are we crazy or what?

In Spain is funny this topic, because a big part of the supplies of the companies are for to laugh not to cry. But in my town we say: at the bad weather, good face, and I don’t throw the towel and I’m continuing searching a job nearby.

Although recently I had think the possibility to work in other country. For me is very sad this option because I want that my land prosper, I want return the things that my country gave me, and if I go to another country, I will not be able to do it.

But when in your country a person don’t have the oportunity to access to a worthy job, don’t have many more posibilites. Because the current people here thinks that the computers people are a masters of the programming, visionaries of the technology, ultra hackers the next Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Linus Torvalds… and is false. I only am a simple person whom like the technology and the computer world.

When I see an architect, I don’t see the next Gaudí, or the creator of the Empire State or the visionary of the next cities; or when I know a mechanic, I never see the next Enzo Ferrari, or the creator of a new revolucionary motor. I only see persons whom like the constructions and the motors, and work with it.

But the computers are a “new science”, and the people don’t know a lot of this, and think that a person who work in it, can programmes my DvD recorder better than me, because is his job no?

And in the companies is happen similar. They search a super man of the computers for normal work, or a normal engineer with a lot of knowledges of an specific topic of the computers world, that you only/maybe can see in a especific job. Ah!, and with languages, mobility to travel, amiable…

With this bad economic situation, it’s true that invest in resources humans needs a big planification, but firstly needs analize better the necessities, for increase the productivity in the future. And if the persons that finish their degree don’t have the knowledge that nowadays the companies want (because the computer world change very fast), speak with the universities, with the goverments, or propose the specific formation in yours necessities. But if all people be quiet, the company don’t grow, and in the financial world if a company don’t grow, decrease.

By my part, I’m continuing sending resumes, searching jobs in the websites, speaking with friends and other people who can help me, and seeing the offerts of others countries. Because when a economy is accustomed to earn money with “traditional” methods, needs a generational change in their bosses to change the business, and here, needs a lot of time too.
